Frequently Asked Questions

Is Mixit just for refugees?

Mixit is primarily a platform for people with refugee backgrounds but it’s also for anyone who’s interested in meeting people from different backgrounds and experiences. The wider the mix the better it is.

Do I have to join in?

Yes – the more you participate the more you get out of it. It’s embarrassing for some to have people just watching so its easier if everyone jumps on the floor and joins in. Its also much more fun than just watching.

But I live a long way away – How will I get there?

If you need assistance with transport just contact us. Mixit has a van and the Youth Leaders organise the transport system. You need to call or text to book a ride before 10am Sat mornings (or better still leave a message on Friday) Ph: 838 3095 or txt 021 255 7937.

How much does it cost?

Mixit is free

Do I have to sign up and commit?

Its not required but the more regularly you participate the more you get out of it and the quicker you become part of the team. Commitment is important if you wish to make good things happen in your life. You have to regularly step up and go for it!

I don’t have any experience – does that matter?

No previous experience with any of the arts is necessary just willingness to turn up and give it a go.

How old do I have to be?

Minimum age is 13; older Mixers are in their early 20s and every age In-between is represented.

How do you get to be a youth leader?

By being motivated, consistently committed and having awareness and interest in supporting others. Also showing the capacity and interest in getting involved with organisation and the bigger aspects of running the project.

My english isn’t very good – Does that matter?

No – there are so many languages amongst the Mixers its rare to not find someone who can communicate with you. Most activities don’t need verbal language for you to understand and join in.

Can I bring my younger brothers and sisters?

Yes – if they are 13 or older. If you have family needs and sibling responsibilities that keep you from coming please discuss these with us and we will try and find a way to help.

Will I know anyone there?

Maybe not – but that doesn’t matter as Mixit is relaxed, welcoming, non-judgemental and friendly. You will make friends and connections very quickly.
